Gosh next week takes us into December and Christmas! Our Christmas break begins after last class on Monday 12 December and we start again Tuesday 3 January 2023. The first Monday of January 2023 is a bank holiday,

I had no luck finding a suitable venue in Leyland for a Chrismas Do this year so I have decided to wait until after Christmas when the banqueting suite (old barn) will be available at Worden Hall. It has been totally refurbished and is looking beautiful but not quite ready yet.

Posture and back pain
Most of us get back pain at some point in our lives. It may be due to a sports-related injury, an accident, or a congenital condition such as scoliosis. But most of the time, upper or lower back pain develops during the course of day-to-day life. Repetitive activities at work or home, such as sitting at a computer or lifting and carrying, may produce tension and muscle tightness that result in a backache. Fortunately, there’s a lot we can do to prevent this sort of problem. General physical fitness and a healthy weight are important. But one surprisingly simple strategy can go a long way: Paying attention to your posture.

I also try to include health and fitness tips for any issues that have an impact on my class members.
How is your balance?
When I had my first major MS episode or relapse which led to my diagnosis my balance was really impacted. It was frightening to fall so easily and I started to use a walking stick. Fortunately I recovered enough to teach classes again. I realised that balance was so important and can be practised and improved. So in classes such as Pilates I try to give you as many different balance challenges as possible including the balance hedgehogs. Keep practising it could make a massive difference to your quality of life. Here are some useful links to give you ideas:

Hello,
My husband is doing really well after his hip replacement. I am amazed at the efficiency of the NHS and very grateful that he has had this done. He can look forward to pain free years now and we can go for walks together again which was one of our favourite things. Thank you for all your kind wishes.
Sleep and how to have better quality sleep
Sleep can be a bit elusive sometimes for some people. Dr Michael Mosley has done a fabulous 5 part series on Radio 4 which really helps inform you of good strategies for better sleep. Class member has book published – book launch
Our amazing class member Sylvie Nicholls has had her book published. It is full of wisdom and reflections on how grief impacts on us and how we can support people who are grieving. The book launch is on Tuesday 1 November.
