Hello,
Being self-employed I have to plan my own ‘phased return’ which sometimes is difficult as my head thinks I can do more than my body is ready to do! Healing takes time and cannot be speeded up. However it has been a great joy to come back to chair based and Pilates so far and thank you for being patient and understanding everyone.

Stretches to do while relaxing at home

Week beginning 8 April- frustration and phased return

Hello,
I was talking to the Physio about still being in pain and my perceived lack of progress. She said fitness instructors are the worst kind of patients as we set ourselves goals that are too ambitious. Instead of being happy with walking around the supermarket or just up the road, we think we should be walking a few miles. So I have had to take it a bit easier with the walking! I will try not to be too frustrated and be patient with the amazing healing process that is going on.


Thursday night Pilates 7.30pm starts this week – I am looking forward to seeing everyone again.

Week beginning 1 April- Happy Easter- phased return.

Happy Easter! I hope you are having a lovely weekend in this gorgeous sunshine.

5 weeks post-op and I am still having to remind myself to be patient with the recovery process.  I am creating my own ‘phased return’ programme by coming back to chair-based classes and Pilates first which my Physio is happy with. The whole process has given me a lot of insight into how it feels to have your movement or strength restricted in some way. One of the things I struggled with was getting up and down off the floor which everyone needs to do to be able to do so many things like gardening, cleaning or playing with grandchildren. Week beginning 25 March – Thursday night Pilates and remaining Monday classes start dates

Hello,
4 weeks post-op and I am having to remind myself to be patient with the recovery process. Walking up to half a mile is my limit at the moment then I need a sit down to rest as it becomes too tiring and uncomfortable. But it is all going in the right direction and I am so grateful to modern medicine for my new hip and what that means in terms of quality of life. 

It was lovely to visit my Zumba Gold class in Chorley who are having an amazing time with their cover teacher Jason. Thank you for your cards and gifts everyone. No Zumba Gold Tuesday 2 April 1.30pm at Primrose Gardens

Week beginning 18 March – Mondays Seated Pilates 12.30pm starts again

Hello,
3 weeks post-op and it is really satisfying to be able to do a little bit more each day. I had to remind myself yesterday that resting for recovery is still very important as I was a bit too ambitious on Friday by walking too far.
It was great to see everyone last week at the classes on Wednesday and Thursday daytime!

2 weeks post-op, Wednesday classes starting again, Thursday Chairfit starting again and increase your protein intake as you age

Hello,
It is about 2 weeks post-op and I am feeling less uncomfortable and able to sleep a bit better. It is very satisfying to be able to walk a little bit further each day and lift my leg a bit higher. Two invaluable things are a grabber stick to put my knickers on as I can’t bend yet and a raised toilet seat as sitting too low down is very, very uncomfortable. The clips came out too and I will be able to shower now. Thanks again for the lovely cards and flowers that cheered me up.

Unfortunately Lucy the Zumba teacher has been seriously ill and Sylvia has stepped in to cover the Wednesday morning Zumba class.

Post-op nutrition and older adults- the importance of protein 
I have been advised to increase my protein intake to help with healing but this also applies to older adults (over 60) as we start to have a reduction in muscle mass as we age – in its extreme form it is called sarcopenia Sarcopenia (Muscle Loss): Symptoms & Causes (clevelandclinic.org)  So the message is to increase your protein intake and increase your resistance or weight training as we age.
