Classes week beginning 26 October

Hello
I love sending this email newsletter out to you on a Sunday morning with the Do Fitness Timetable for the coming week. It gives me a feeling of security in these up and down times. This weekend I am on the other side of Zoom doing a fabulous course called Ability Not Disability which gives  instructors a toolkit for teaching class members with ALN- Additional Learning Needs (SEN). It has been really interesting as over the years I have had class members with ALN attending my general classes or ALN classes. I might be a bit tired by Monday though!

How lucky were we yesterday – no rain for our Saturday morning Nordic Walk but it rained for the rest of the day!



Resistance Bands in Pilates
I would love to start using resistance bands again in Pilates. They are a fabulous bit of kit for building muscle strength and increasing bone density. Obviously I am not allowed to lend them out anymore as we are not allowed to share equipment. If you have one please start bringing it to class. I will order new ones to supply in class if you don’t have one.

Zumba 
There is something about Zumba that is so uplifting -especially at the moment. We introduced a new dance track  last week that has spread round the world from South Africa. It is called Jerusalema. Next Nordic Walking Training
The next technique course will be Friday 30 October 12-2pm on Worden Park. Book through  https://gymcatch.com/

Nordic Walkers – Do you want a Thursday ‘before work’ walk?
I am just asking if anyone would like a ‘before work’ walk on Thursday mornings? Probably about 7.15am to finish by 8.15am to avoid traffic. If you would then please send me a quick message so I can gauge interest. It will be a regular walk covering up to 3 miles at a reasonable pace in Leyland or Buckshaw Village

Zoom  classes are going to be a part of the future for now. They are really useful for people who are shielding or self isolating. They are also very convenient cutting down for travelling to and from a venue. Also we don’t know what is round the corner in terms of face to face classes. As you know there are new regulations and changes coming out all the time in response to Covid cases. On Fridays now  you can book on a Zoom class through Gymcatch 9.30am Zumba 10.30am Pilates.

Because of the government regulations a booking system is in place for all face to face classes as we can no longer do ‘paying at the door’ and we need to have a way to trace everyone with contact details. Nordic Walkers please bring your own poles (let me know if you need to borrow disinfected ones). All classes are following guidelines on social distancing.

Getting all autumnal for our Wellbeing Nordic Walk on Thursday afternoons.

Hello everyone
During these confusing times we need a bit of certainty and that is what I try to do with our class timetable. I was wondering why I was feeling so drained over the last week or so and of course it was because of the uncertainty in waiting to hear about Lancashire going into Tier 3 and what would that mean. What a relief to find Lancashire’s Tier 3 allows Gyms, Leisure Centres and Community Fitness (that is us) to carry on! There has been some wisdom somewhere in acknowledging the massive benefit to physical health and wellbeing of community exercise. Do Fitness is allowed to carry on because it is  we are Covid secure. It is very important that we follow all the guidelines given below:

We are waking up to a beautiful sunny Sunday this morning in contrast to the torrential rain on Tuesday when even my most determined of Nordic Walkers and I decided it was too bad to go out!

Well it is October! How did that happen? From the feedback I am getting from people it is has made me realise how important our classes are for physical and mental health during such uncertain and restricted  times. Even though our classes have changed a little in terms of the procedures we have to follow there is something special about group exercise. We are slowly increasing our indoor timetable again with new classes starting on Monday 12 October with 1.30pm Zumba Gold and 2.30pm Seated Pilates and Thursday  evening 15 October 6.30pm Pilates all at St Ambrose Church Hall. My goal is to have something for everyone.

Volunteer Opportunities with Chorley Buddies
I have become involved with Chorley Buddies which started during lockdown to provide support for people who are isolated. I will be teaching Seated Pilates and Aquafit for them to help people to get out of the house for exercise and social contact while exercising. As the project expands they will need more volunteers. Week beginning 28 September

Walking  along the prom I saw all kinds of exercise going on in Brighton.
Hello everyone
Well I had an interesting time in Brighton last weekend. What an fascinating place it is with the beautiful Georgian buildings. Great place for cyclists too with the well-used wide promenade. My course was extremely good too. I have to get my head down now to do all my course work to become a  Meditation, Mindfulness and Relaxation Coach. I have a feeling there will be a big need for this in these uncertain times!


Last  Fresh Air Fit class Monday 28 September
We will have our last Fresh Air Fit on Monday 28 September at 9.30am. We are moving indoors to the Methodist Church Hall from 5 October and the class will be renamed Move It Mondays- the same kind of class to Fresh Air Fit but indoors so had to change the name!

Diary and start point changes for Nordic Walking
Thank you Alan for taking this beautiful photo on Worden Park – we can see autumn arriving in this tree. This is the great thing about Nordic Walking you really notice nature around you.
Monday 28 September Nordic Walking  6.30pm 
From Monday 28 September our start point will be Tesco’s Buckshaw Village.
Tuesdays  11.30am Nordic Walking  start point Leyland Tesco’s Extra 
Again due to parking shortages on Worden Park we will change our start point to Leyland Tesco’s Extra on the side near the chip shop.
Thursdays 6.30pm Nordic Walking new start point Leyland Tesco’s Extra 
This is due to reduction in parking available and getting ready for the darker evenings.
Friday night White Coppice has finished
We have finished the Friday night at White Coppice due to the darker evenings. It has been really interesting exploring around that area. I will organise some walks during the day a couple of times a month exploring new areas with in easy access of Leyland and Chorley. Let me know if you have any suggestions.

Indoor classes at the Methodist Church Hall
As we are back with are indoor classes here are your guidelines for a safe session:
Please book and pay on-line to come https://gymcatch.com/  
Do not enter the building until a couple of minutes before class start times and leave promptly. 
Please enter the building through the bottom door and leave through the top
Please bring your own mat for Pilates
Masks are not encouraged during your exercise session so can be removed once you are ready to start the class. They can be worn entering and leaving the building.
Please maintain your 2 meters distance at all times
Please hand sanitize before entering the building and use the hand sanitizers in the building.
DO NOT COME TO THE SESSION IF YOU HAVE A HIGH TEMPERATURE, A COUGH OR A LOSS OR CHANGE IN YOUR NORMAL SENSE OR TASTE OR SMELL



Gymcatch for booking all classes
Because of the government regulations a booking system is in place for all face to face classes as we can no longer do ‘paying at the door’ and we need to have a way to trace everyone with contact details. The  booking system can be found on https://gymcatch.com/  -go to this web-site and click the red ‘book’ button on the top right hand side. Search for Do Fitness.     
Nordic Walkers please bring your own poles (let me know if you need to borrow disinfected ones). All classes are following guidelines on social distancing.
Pilates class members please bring your own mats.
