Week beginning 29 June

Hello everyone

We have had our 3rd week of outdoor classes – and it was beautiful to dance Zumba in the sunshine and look at the blue skies lying on our mats in Pilates. I felt like I was on holiday somewhere like the south of France but my goodness how the weather has changed! I certainly don’t need to water the allotment! Due to the weather forecast I have cancelled Monday Zumba outdoors.  I think it will be too wet under foot and possibly slippery on the grass. I hope that when my new broadband is installed on Thursday we can enjoy our Zoom classes more easily rather than having delays and freezing challenges. The only outdoor classes I am running next week are Nordic Walking groups because they can put their raincoats on.


Nordic Walking Technique Course
Many people have discovered how beneficial walking can be during lockdown. A relative of mine has lost a stone in weight and feels so much fitter just by going for a walk every morning whereas he used to drive everywhere. Nordic Walking adds the upper body workout too plus sets a good pace for improved cardiovascular fitness. There is a Nordic Walking Technique course at 10.30am on Wednesday 1 July meeting on the Folly Café lawn Worden Park. Disinfected poles can be borrowed for this. The Folly Café Worden Park is open for Takeaways
The Folly Café is now open for takeaway coffee, cafes and ice-cream. They have supported us by letting us use their lawn for our outdoor classes which I am really grateful for.

Week beginning 22 June

Hello everyone

We have had our 2nd week of outdoor classes and again it was so good to see everyone and have a catch up. Of course it is all weather dependant and forecasts seem to change nearer the time so we had a rainy Zumba session on Thursday but it still felt good! Nordic Walking is less weather dependant as we are used to going out in whatever the weather so I am introducing more sessions this coming week. A lunchtime session on Tuesday and two sessions next Saturday.

IT Trials and Tribulations
Oh my goodness this has been a learning curve! Buying a new laptop , cables and anything else that might improve the virtual  experience. I have done everything I can to make Zoom classes work. Endless conversations with my broadband provider to improve things and them telling me I can’t have fibre optic which would be the game changer . Finally I have discovered Virgin Media will provide fibre optic! Hurray! So hopefully from the beginning of July we will have much better Zoom sessions which is particularly important for Zumba.

Week beginning 15 June

Hello everyone

Wow it was great to see some of you in person last week. We had a great outdoor Zumba on Monday and a peaceful Pilates on Tuesday both on the Folly Café Lawn with a two sessions of Nordic Walking! It was a good feeling to be doing something normal again and getting together.
 
I have been trying to use this hiatus as effectively as possible and I have been doing quite a lot of on line teacher training. I am doing a level 3 exercise for older adults course which is proving to be really interesting. I am also  going to be training as a Relaxation, Meditation and Mindfulness Teacher – something I have been meaning to do for a long time. A lot of reading for me! 

For outdoor classes I need to keep an eye on the weather forecast so I have moved the outdoor Pilates from Tuesday to Thursday next week. I have added another outdoor Zumba next week on Thursday as Monday is full. Not only am I keeping my eye on the weather but also all the government announcements and COVID news so that is why I am only planning a week at a time!

There is a Nordic Walking Technique course at 11.30am on Monday 15 June. A number of people have been asking about that.

I am trying an experiment with SWITA and Pilates next week to deliver them through Facebook Live AND Zoom – see what happens!

Baby steps, outdoor and virtual classes

Hello everyone

I continue with my recovery from the MS flare up and enjoying the fact that I can ride my bike again and loving having my energy and joie de vivre back. Thanks again for all your messages.
As an instructor I have to keep a close eye on the news to see what we are permitted to do. We are now allowed to teach in small groups with 5 participants outdoors observing Social Distancing and with no shared equipment. So we are taking baby steps to get back towards live  classes. Small group Nordic Walking will start and the owners of the Folly Café on Worden Park have kindly given me the use of their lawn for classes too. Starting to recover and thank you for your lovely messages

Hello everyone,

Just a quick hello to keep in touch. I hope you are all well. 

I am sorry to have disappeared but the MS flare up stopped me from doing everything. I really wasn’t very well. Even sending an email would have been too much! I am so fortunate to be starting to recover now. Relapsing Remitting MS is very unpredictable. Thank you everyone for your lovely messages! 

I am hoping to start posting some videos again soon but taking things slowly – I have a tendency to be too optimistic!

Listening to the news and reading  different sources I think one of the first things to start again will be Nordic Walking in small groups with social distancing. I will keep you posted.
