Hello,

Thank you for bearing with me while I took time off from classes for some study and exams. I was studying Exercise for Long Term Neurological conditions such as Parkinsons, MS, Cerebral Palsy and MND. It was an intense week with 2 exams and 4 days on Zoom listening to lectures and a lot of course work to hand in left to do. It was exhausting! It made me feel great sympathy for my class members who have a desk based job.


May Bank Holidays and Polling station venue closures and 60th birthday.
There is so much going on in May. There are no classes on the following dates:

Thursday 4 May no Prospect House evening classes and no St Mary’s Community Centre Chairfit class.

There will be no evening classes my 60th birthday Thursday 18 May.

Road works around Prospect House 
I have been notified that there will be road works from the Tuesday 25th April from the start of Balcarres Road to Broad Square. This will done in 100 meter sections. So allow a little bit more time to get to class.

Week beginning 3 April, Easter holiday dates and do you really need that biscuit?

Hello,

Easter is next weekend so we have no classes next Friday 7 April and Monday 10 April so a lovely long weekend for everyone.


Do you really need that biscuit? Creating healthy habits
Do you automatically open the biscuit tin when you have a cup of tea? Do you open a bag of crisps when you watch your favourite television programme. We often do things without thinking – it is just a habit we have got into. First of all, think ‘Am I actually hungry?’ Then think ‘Is this good for my body and my health’? As we get older these habits may become more significant as that biscuit you have everyday over time might become extra abdominal fat which might start to impact on you in terms of pre-diabetes or high cholesterol or high blood pressure- so the innocent little habit is no so harmless afterall. Always review your habits and see which can be changed and you might be surprised how quickly your jeans fit more comfortably!

Anxiety and ways to deal with it
It is normal in life to go through ups and downs – some downs more difficult to deal with than others. But after the difficulties have subsided, we need be able to return to a calmer, more peaceful mindset. However sometimes that doesn’t happen and we stay in a heighted state – remaining afraid, anxious and hyperalert all the time with our minds continually thinking of catastrophic outcomes in normal everyday situations.  Exercise can really help to take our mind off things and is a physical release and reduces the stress hormones in our body.


It is important to get help when you are feeling like this and if it continues for a long period.

Hello,
In my job you never stop learning and I love that about it. At the moment I am doing a specialist course in Exercise for Long Term Neurological Conditions. It involves a lot of study but it means I feel more confident with conditions like Parkinson’s, MS and Stroke which class members have had over the years I have been teaching fitness. This is why I am taking 4 days off from classes in April to do my exams and practical assessments.
