It has been a beautiful autumnal weekend which was perfect for Nordic Walking. My new Nordic Walking trainees enjoyed exploring Worden Park.



Saturday morning Nordic Walking start point change
We will meet on Worden Park main carpark from Saturday 19 November at 10.30am.

Week beginning 7 November and how is your balance?

I also try to include health and fitness tips for any issues that have an impact on my class members.

How is your balance?
When I had my first major MS episode or relapse which led to my diagnosis my balance was really impacted. It was frightening to fall so easily and I started to use a walking stick. Fortunately I recovered enough to teach classes again. I realised that balance was so important and can be practised and improved. So in classes such as Pilates I try to give you as many different balance challenges as possible including the balance hedgehogs. Keep practising it could make a massive difference to your quality of life. Here are some useful links to give you ideas:

Week beginning 31 October, sleep and next Nordic Walking technique course

Hello,

My husband is doing really well after his hip replacement. I am amazed at the efficiency of the NHS and very grateful that he has had this done. He can look forward to pain free years now and we can go for walks together again which was one of our favourite things. Thank you for all your kind wishes.

Sleep and how to have better quality sleep
Sleep can be a bit elusive sometimes for some people. Dr Michael Mosley has done a fabulous 5  part series on Radio 4 which really helps inform you of good strategies for better sleep. Really worth a listen if you are struggling in anyway Just One Thing – with Michael Mosley – Sleep Well – with Michael Mosley – Sleep Well – Episode 1: Breathe – BBC Sounds

Class member has book published – book launch
Our amazing class member Sylvie Nicholls has had her book published. It is full of wisdom and reflections on how grief impacts on us and how we can support people who are grieving. The book launch is on Tuesday 1 November.

I am taking a few days off for my husband’s hip replacement surgery. 

Ladies Night – to raise funds for St Marys Community Centre
I am hoping to be there to support this event. St Mary’s Parish has taken on the ownership of the former Priory Club in Leyland and has turned it into a parish and community NOT FOR PROFIT resource run by unpaid volunteers. The centre is the home of the Churches Together in Leyland, Food Bank and Furniture Scheme, Radio Leyland and many other community activities.


Class member has book published
Congratulations to our class member Sylvie Nicholls who has had a book published! The book launch is on Tuesday 1 November at Leyland Methodist Church. The book is available on Amazon.

World Menopause Day 2022 – Tuesday 18 October

There has been so much more awareness of the impact of menopause on women’s lives recently. Davina McCall did an amazing job to raise awareness with her television programme: Davina McCall: Sex, Mind and the Menopause – All 4 (channel4.com). The impact on work, relationships and mental health cannot be underestimated and the better informed we are the better we are prepared to look after ourselves and the women around us. I am supporting an event on Tuesday organised by the Primary Care Network of an number of local GP practices.

Monday 6.30pm Nordic Walking moves to Buckshaw Tesco start from 10 October
This allows us to walk through well-lit routes in the dark evenings in winter.

Class members going to volunteer in Zambia
Two of our class members, Alison and Jayne are going to volunteer in the Jack and Jill School in Zambia and would like to take as much as possible for the children. Anything anyone can donate please bring into class next week and I will collect and give to Alison and Jayne. Thank you.
‘We are a party of 11 going to Choma in Zambia for 2 weeks to help out at the Jack and Jill school, the children have next to nothing so we are taking as much as we can, warm clothes up to age 11, warm socks and underwear are particularly needed, as are jumpers    We are also taking things to do crafts with, paint palettes, colouring pencils, wool, crochet hooks, glue sticks etc x would be so wonderful if anyone could help out’ x Alison and Jayne
