Hello,
Welcome to our new class members who have joined us recently. Don’t forget there are lots of videos you can use- particulary Zumba dances which are available via the Do Fitness video link and there is a private Facebook group so class members can talk to each other or post pictures.

The news has been very difficult to listen to over the last two weeks and I haven’t mentioned it in class as our classes are a space where we can relax and forget about our worries. However we are doing some fundraising and donating in class over the next few weeks – information below:

Hello,
Another beautiful weekend – I hope you all got out in the sunshine. It really does make all the difference and lifts our spirits! Today I just wanted to talk about warming up and how important it is. Whatever exercise you take part in make sure you have had a warm up to prevent injury.

Why warming up is so important

We always start a class with a warm up and these are the reasons why:

It gets your heart rate up  Getting your heart rate up gradually is important. Doing it slowly instead of all at once allows your body to adjust to the increased workload progressively.
It helps to lubricate your joints  The more you move your joints, the more lubricated they get. Most joints are synovial joints. Bones that end in a synovial joint have a layer of cartilage at the end of them. In the joint between the layers of cartilage is synovial fluid. It’s this synovial fluid that becomes less viscous and allows joints to move more easily when you do a warm up. 
It warms up your muscles  Your muscles are able to perform better when they’re warm. Including a warm up in your workout ensures that they’re warm before you start asking them to do harder things. In addition, getting more blood to your muscles means that they also have more access to oxygen. Oxygen is the fuel that gets them working.
It’s mental preparation In addition to getting ready physically, warm ups help you to prepare mentally as well. Getting in the ‘zone’ and  allows you to put in 100% effort.

We have had the pleasure of beautiful spring weather this weekend to help us forget the storms and rain. Nordic Walking was a complete joy yesterday in the sunshine as we explored a new route by the banks of the River Lostock in Leyland. River Lostock – Wikipedia. Week beginning 21 February

Hello,

I have been thinking about balance and how it is so important. It is something we practice in every class. Balance practice is not just for when we get older it is a skill we need to work on throughout our life so our balance is good when we get older.  A fall in later life can be catastophic if we break a hip for example. You can practice and improve your balance any time- stand on one leg when you boil the kettle or when you are cleaning your teeth. Standing on one leg also improves bone density.

Monday morning classes are now at Prospect House 45 Sandy Lane Leyland
Tuesday evenings have finished for now- Zumba and Pilates moving to Thursday night at Prospect House, Sandy Lane.
Zumba has moved to Thursday nights at 6.30pm at Prospect House. There is already a Pilates class at 7.30pm for people to join. 
Nordic Walking Changes – Monday 6.30pm nights moved to Leyland and Thursday 6pm night walk finished.

The week ahead has a few changes to our timetable – please check if it affects you by looking at the timetable below and checking venues when you book on Gymcatch.

I have been thinking about self-care and how we can often neglect it because of other pressures on our time. Self-care is so very important because we always need something in reserve for what life throws at us. Keeping strong and fit through exercise whether it is a daily walk or Zumba or Pilates is one way to charge up your batteries and build our resilience.

Change of Monday morning venue from 7 February due to roof repairs at Leyland Methodist Church Hall
From 7 February our Monday classes are moving to Prospect House 45 Sandy Lane Leyland

 Tuesday evenings have finished for now- Zumba and Pilates moving to Thursday night at Prospect House, Sandy Lane.
I am really sorry to say that due to the repairs to the leaky roof at Leyland Methodist Tuesday night classe have finished. From 10 February Zumba will move to Thursday nights at 6.30pm at Prospect House. There is already a Pilates class at 7.30pm for people to join. I have found it impossible to find another Tuesday night venue.
