How strong are your legs? Having strong legs is so important so we can get up and down easily, play with grandchildren or do our gardens. If we lose strength it will make it harder to balance so we fall more easily. Here are some good videos for maintaining and increasing strength in your legs.

No classes Friday 2 August
There will be no classes on Friday 2 August as it is Kathryn’s funeral.
Sadly we lost our lovely class member Kathryn Bell. We are making a collection for Galloways the sight loss charity in her memory. Thank you to those who have donated so far.

Class at Euxton Community Centre – Forever Fit is full with a waiting list.
This class is now full with a waiting list. The people who came in the first two weeks or messaged me are on the class list. There is now a waiting list for new attendees. Sorry about that but I want to ensure we have enough space for everyone as it is not a big hall. 

Nordic Walking
I will start to lead Nordic Walking Groups again on Saturdays and Monday evenings in September. Class members have been meeting up informally for Nordic walking. If you have done the training and you would like to join them please get in touch with me for more details.

Week beginning 15 July- sad news

I am sorry to have very sad news in this post. Our lovely class member Kathryn Bell died last week. This has been a terrible shock. Kathryn had an amazing sense of humour and she was dealing with her sight loss very bravely. We will miss her. We are going to have a collection in class in her memory for Galloways Sight Loss Charity | Galloway’s Society for the Blind | Preston (galloways.org.uk)

New Class has started at Euxton Community Centre – Forever Fit
A new class has started at 11.30am on Tuesdays at Euxton Community Centre. This is a ‘keep fit ‘class working on cardiovascular fitness, strength training, balance and flexibility. There is no floorwork.

Week beginning 8 July – the importance of strength training

I was listening to this great podcast with Dr Daniel Lieberman (a Harvard Professor) Do This To Stop Premature Ageing! | Dr Daniel E. Lieberman (youtube.com) He regretted not starting strength or resistance training when he was younger and he also said ‘As you get older exercise becomes more not less important’

Here are some ideas for strength training for beginners with dumbbells. A new class starts at 11.30am on Tuesdays at Euxton Community Centre. This is a ‘keep fit ‘class working on cardiovascular fitness, strength training, balance and flexibility. There is no floorwork.

Guide needed for Visually Impaired Class Member

Week beginning 1 July, no classes on 4 July and improve your balance

This time of year goes a bit quiet in our classes as many of my class members go on holiday before the school summer holidays start. Have a lovely holiday if you are going away. My holiday is going to be the first 2 weeks of September so a bit to wait yet. (A yoga retreat in Greece with my daughter.)

Improving your balance
A couple of weeks ago I posted a video about getting up off the floor 3 Most Important Exercises to EASILY Get Up from the Floor (youtube.com)   I had some good feedback about this that people are already finding improvements. If that is something you are struggling with it is worth a watch.

We beginning 24 June, why dancing is good for you and radio interview-options and recovery

Hello,
I was chatting with one of my Zumba Gold classes last week about the many benefits of coming to Zumba regularly. I was saying how good it is for agility, balance and coordination and it helps reduce blood pressure, improves lung function, strengthens the heart and so on when one of my lovely class members said ‘But it just makes you feel good!‘ and of course it really does! What happens in our brains when we dance. Last week was my 15th Zumba instructor anniversary known as a Zinversary (ZIN= Zumba instructor network) Zumba has seen me and some of you through the hardest of times and it is such a joy to keep dancing with you all!

Last week when I was writing my newsletter there was still no news about Dr Michael Mosley who had gone missing on his holiday on a small Greek island. Sadly when I finished my newsletter it was announced that he had been found. I often used his podcasts in my newsletter and I had been to see him give talks. His advice helped many regain their health or stay healthy.
